Following tapes on Reserve Matinee and Structures Without Purpose, we find Illinois’ HANGING LICHEN in pure form on this full-length tape of concrete sounds. Shifting textures of nature’s beauty and horror provide a 30-minute journey through the life cycle of human expenditure. Electronics act like a fungal network as worms enter and exit through the body. Balancing field recorded bliss with textural noise hiss, “Consumption” feels like an expansive form of musique concrete and post-industrial. Bones erode and collide in the vastness of wealth present on this black earth. A masterful album of sound collage and noise. Truly dripping in gems.
